Carbs. The truth for a failed Ketoer? Can I love carbs and still lose weight?

First post guys :)

So first a little background (I'll keep it brief) basically I've always been big/fat/whatever term you want to use, for my whole life. A couple of years ago I gave the Keto diet a blast and for a few months I thought I had found the solution to all my problems. The weight dropped off, and I felt better than ever. Carbs were seen as the devil and I really bought into that whole mindset.

However after a while I simply couldn't sustain it (life without pizza and pasta? Come on!) and now 2 years later I am fatter than ever.

Basically there's so much conflicting info out there, on one side there's people saying that carbs etc don't matter and that losing weight is just a matter of calories, and then there is the other side (which I've seen in action first hand) that say carbs/insulin/etc are a far more important aspect of weight loss than calories.

I know I need to lose weight. I'm 39, M, 5'11, 280 (ish I haven't had the guts to step on the scale yet ) I have 5 wonderful kids and an amazing wife that I want to be healthier for. But I also know that a low carb lifestyle simply isn't an option for me.

So regardless of what I 'learned' while doing Keto, can I lose weight and still have carbs?

Thanks in advance for any reason :)
