(Advice) Teenager really wanting to loose weight but has no idea how to do it.

TL;DR AT THE BOTTOM

I’m 17, and I weigh about 200 lbs and I’m 5’5. I don’t look that bad, but I know I need to lose weight.

I saw a nutritionist and she was pretty simple in what she told me, basically eat more veggies, don’t go out to eat, etc. She very strongly advised against any major diet changes that I asked about, like keto or vegetarianism. She said I shouldn’t do any of that because I’m young and it could mess up my metabolism and growth. I’m not sure if that’s true but idk. I don’t have any health issues, I’m actually surprisingly super healthy for my age. She didn’t seem that concerned about me loosing weight or anything.

But I’m getting tired of being out of shape. And I used to be about 180-ish but in the past year I’ve gained more weight and it bothers me. Other people don’t really notice but I have. I went from a 12 to a 16/18, and that is not acceptable to me.

But I’m kind of lost as to how to lose weight at this point. Like, I know I need to exercise more, since I honestly don’t do that much. But how? I have no experience and come from a pretty sedentary family. There’s a Plant Fitness about 15 miles from my house and I just got a license, so I was thinking about joining and going a few times a week. But how often? And what do I do when I’m there? What’s effective?

And I know I need to make diet changes, but what kind? I figure I should probably severely limit eating out. I do it probably 1 to 4 times a week. And I think I’ll cut out soft drinks. I don’t drink them that much but it’ll probably help. But other than that, I have a serious lack of understanding when it comes to calories, proportions, heathy eating, etc. What exactly is healthy? And what can I cut out without it being detrimental to my health?

I don’t want to go into adulthood totally unhealthy. I’ve been overweight since I was a kid. I really just wanna be an average sized, healthy person. Like 140-160 I think is about right? I feel like I read so many different things online and hear so many different things—one website will say to do running, but not sit-ups, another will say to do sit-ups and not running, etc. A lot of the info I’ve found is contradictory and I don’t know what to do.

I need help, Reddit. Any advice?

TL;DR- Teenager wanting to get healthy and loose weight, but confused on how exactly to do that. Need advice on workout and diet stuff please.

(If this is against the rules then let me know and I’ll take it down)
