370 Fat Burning Soup Recipes

Saturday, 31 October 2020

My old exercise plan is about to be entirely void, and it's really made me lose a lot of inspiration.

When I started this year, I was over 320 pounds. I told myself that I was going to start losing weight, and it was going great. From January to October, I lost almost 70 pounds, and was really inspired to lose the rest. A combination of drinking more water, working a very intense job, and tracking what I eat and drink really helped me get there.

However, last month something started happening with my foot. It's been misaligned for a while, but never bothered me too much since the most I'd get out of it was the occasional "how come you walk funny?". Last month that quickly turned into uneasiness, foot pains, and tripping repeatedly over and over. Essentially, no matter what, this month I'm going to have some sort of action taken, and it'll more than likely have me out of commission for a few weeks to a few months. I'd be lying if I said this really hurt my motivation, and I've already gained back ~10 pounds. It feels like the past month has definitely taken a few steps backwards, and I want to start getting back into my old habits.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know any good home exercises that require little-to-no leg requirement? One of my favorite exercises to lose weight was going on walks, and that won't be an option anymore. Gaining muscle and losing calories would both be great to know.

Using a belt as weight loss motivation

During my teen years, I use to be too big for belts and, I mean very big. Like not even a men’s sized 48 would fit a 15 year old girl kind of big, No stores in my area ever sold plus sized belts and, thus I had to deal with my pants falling down. I hated the feeling of my pants falling off as I went to sit down. If I didn’t wear large T-shirt’s, my underwear would have been seen by everyone. It wasn’t until the first few months into 2020 that, I managed to actually fit into the first puncture of the belt. I was amazed that I was able to fit in one for the first time since I was a kid. Before my weight loss, I’d go to the belts in the store and try on the biggest size that they had. I couldn’t even get passed the metal without holding in my stomach. Fast forward and, I’m adding on new punctures. So far, I’ve added 3 to the previous 5 that was already in the belt. Whenever I compare the size difference, it baffles me. Going from the 8th puncture to all of the way back to the metal part where it didn’t fit me, was a shocker.

Although I’m buying new pants as I lose weight, I’m sticking with this same belt until no more punctures can be added. Just due to the fact that it’s such a great weight loss motivator. I can see how much progress that I’ve made just from sliding a piece of leather.

It's like getting a new body

I've been overweight to obese the majority of my life. Been trying the last ten years on and off to lose the weight and get healthy.

Finally, for the first time, I'm seeing real successes that are sticking. Same methodology I've used before; CICO (1200-1300 daily intake) and IF (16:8). Except with the pandemic and isolation I've had the time and space to work on my mental health which has been MAJOR. I'm just 5lb shy of my goal, I've never been this close before!!

Anyways, to my story. Been seeing a new rehab RMT for some life-long physiological problems, no biggie. But I frequently go home to find lovely bruises arching across my bad and hips. Going every week so lately I'm just generally sore like I've been beat up every day.

Last night a spot on my back, on the ribs under my scapula, was hurting like it was bruised. I was in bed lying on my side, and I reached to my back to rub the sore spot when... I could feel my ribs. Except I could really feel my ribs, way more then ever before. And one in particular felt bigger than the others? I was starting to wonder if my new RMT, who's a very big and strong man, maybe moved a rib or something? But that doesn't sound right, do ribs move? It didn't hurt when I breathed in so nothing was broken. All these thoughts went through my head as I got out of bed and went to the tall mirror to check it out.

Turns out I'm fine, I'm just a dummy forgetting that I'm not used to having lost this much weight before. I've never felt my bones, not really. They all have distinct shapes, curves, arches, edges, that you can't feel when there's however many inches of fat in the way. I'm not even remotely skinny or underweight (135lbs, 5'5"), so I'm not worried about that.

It really is transformative!? Like a new body, I'm discovering all sorts of neat things I never imagined I'd experience with weight loss. So I guess ribs feel different in an unexpected way when you're a healthy weight, who knew?

30 Day Accountability Challenge - Day 31 Wraps Ups

Hello losers,

Sign up post is up!

https://redd.it/jlt44t

Weight by end of month (199 lbs, preferably trend weight): No weigh in this morning. I just can't kids. I know I'm hovering above where I was but I'm not actively gaining so that's a win.

Stay within calorie range (maintain): Maintenance. Doing okay. Just don't have mental emotional bandwidth to press this.

Exercise 5 days a week: Did okay this month. 23/31 days.

Self-care journaling (once a week, 60 minutes): Nailed it! 4/4 weeks.

Self-care time (work on not using food as a reward): Did okay here. Lots of adulting appointments, trying to do the right thing by my body.

Try a new recipe once a week: Turkey tacos, roasted parsnips, roasted purple cauliflower, fajita marinade/fixings & a hamburger casserole thingy. 5/5 weeks.

Be more mindful, present in my body & express gratitude to avoid the hedonic treadmill: Struggling to feel my body but still trekking on.

Onto your fun stuff, how did your October go? And happy Halloween if y'all celebrate.

Anyone else discouraged by Libra?

I've heard great things about HappyScale, so I got the android version, Libra. I'm a daily weigher, because I find the fluctuations interesting, but only log weight in MyFitnessPal once a week or so. So, I was looking forward to Libra and its moving-average feature. However, the "estimated goal date" or whatever it's called is totally messing with me. I don't feel like it's based on averages. It changes drastically from day to day, even as I log a couple .1 or .2 losses, one .2 gain bumps my date back 2 weeks. I ended up taking a break from weighing. I also don't know what the green numbers mean, and that makes me feel dumb.

So, anyone else kinda hatin' on Libra?

Goal! 40 Lbs in 12 Weeks - Tips, tricks & thoughts

Thought I would share the news - and pass thoughts. So many previous posts were very helpful to achieve my goal. 40lbs in 12 weeks - dropped from 265 to 225.

  • CICO works - the math was fairly consistent - each week I would lose between 2-4 lbs. My TDEE was around 3,000 and my calorie target was 1,500 - so I should have (and did) average ~3 lbs loss per week.
  • To kick off my program, I did a 3-day juice cleanse (with a 2-day prep before cleanse). I hit about 800 calories a day for the 3 days, lost 8 lbs that week - and I felt it helped me move to 1,500 days easily (which seemed like a lot of food). It showed a quick win and helped me set a frame of mind.
  • I used https://www.reddit.com/r/1500isplenty/ for meal ideas. Some things that worked for me were peanut butter powder (protein add at lower calorie), used freekah as my primary grain, no bread, no rice or no pasta, I did oatmeal for breakfast but also worked in some protein waffles, cauli-rice, lean ground meats, and a ton of veg. Many of the meals I will continue as I move to maintenance.
  • I did 300 cal for breakfast, 300 for lunch, and 700 for dinner. I had 2 x 100 cal snacks in between meals. I tried to only eat between 9 AM and 6 PM. In the early few weeks, I chewed gum quite a bit, but then dropped it as I established rhythm. If I had to gnaw on something, I did 35 calorie rice cakes. The structure really helped me stick with the overall program - did not want to think, just execute.
  • I never did any cheat meals or cheat days. I had originally planned to up my calories on weekends - and take breaks. But I felt great through the 12 weeks - more energy, better sleep, etc.. I never wanted to disrupt momentum.
  • I was fairly active - spin 3 x per week, long hike 1X per week, light aerobics 2x per week. I also did strength training 3x per week (on my spin days). I did not want to lose a ton of muscle, so I watched my protein as much as possible - just wanted to be above 100g a day.
  • My secret was a significant other who was in full support - she led a lot of meal prep, which was a big advantage. We worked out a lot together as well - we had access to a building gym with basic weights, spin bike, and treadmill.
  • As the weeks went by, my poop did not flow easily. Some of the choppiness in my week to week loss measurement was based on movement timing. After week 5, I started taking Miralax once a week. Since I was low on calorie, needed some help. I had Sunday morning as my weekly weigh-in date/time.
  • I had a DEXA scan a few weeks ago and now have a baseline for body fat of 26% - my plan is to up my calorie to 1800 then 2000 and slowly drop to 215.
  • Prior to this success, I incorrectly believed that working out hard was the key to weight loss. Although I did exercise hard and frequent, I was still overeating (especially late at night - second dinners). My big lesson: if you want to lose weight, focus on nutrition and calorie deficit.

As always, if I could do it - anybody can do it. I was just really tired of being heavy - and took that first step. When i saw progress, the momentum just kept building.

sad but actually not sad progress !

Soooo it’s been about 3.5 months since i started my weight loss journey. I didn’t lose crazy much but enough to notice some things. Within the first month i bought a few mom/boyfriend jeans because i always felt like i was too fat to rock them but i wanted to feel confident in them even with little/no progress. I wanted to gain confidence not only through weight loss but also with my mindset. Anyways, I bought a few jeans and LOVED them so much! I had each of them on for 2-4 times and even though they weren’t crazy tight around my waist/stomach, they originally fitted perfectly. but now i see how 2 of them already don’t fit without a belt and one of those doesn’t look good even with the belt because it just fits so loosely. On the one hand, I am extremely happy to not only see progress on the scale but also progress in the way clothes fit but on the other hand, i loved these jeans so much and they were (for me atleast) still very new. Of course the happy side wins here and i wouldn’t want to fit back into the jeans whatsoever but i just wanted to share this “sad” milestone which is actually rather funny than sad. Have a nice day everyone and maybe remember to not buy a lot of clothes in the beginning of your weight loss or you will end up like me and only be able to enjoy them for a little time.

Mom keeps being concerned over my weight loss and doesn’t want me to lose more

I’m a 19 y/o female and I’m staying home for university for this semester. I used to be 5’3” and 120 pounds but I didn’t really like that I looked flabby and I wanted to slim down my thighs. A month and a half ago I started exercising and restricting to 1200 calories a day and now I’m 5’3” and 114 pounds. I want to get down to 108-110 pounds. Point being, I’m still a healthy weight but my mom thinks I’m getting too thin. She keeps telling me how she’s concerned about me and just now she told me not to lose any more weight. She keeps trying to make me eat more desserts and food. I don’t understand why she thinks I’m too thin because I look healthy in the mirror and I’m not losing weight too fast. Any advice?

F22, unhealthy rel with food, wanting to lose weight

I'm a 22 year old female. When I was 11 I weighed 85kgs, then by 14 I weighed 57. I used to starve myself a lot, that formed a horrible relationship with food. Now I'm 22 and back to square one, I weigh around 80-90kg, not sure how much exactly because I can't look at the scale. I'm 5"5, and the weight goes to my face, stomach and thighs. I can't stand to look at myself, the way I'm shaped makes me feel sick. My butt isn't small, but my stomach feels huge. I don't know how to improve my relationship with food, when I'm sad I eat then feel miserable because I made things worse. I also don't have access to fresh veggies all the time, so depend on frozen food such as chips, chicken nuggets etc. I also eat a lot of rice and pasta. I'm honestly desperate now. I wanna lose weight to finally feel good about myself, I deserve to not hate my body for once.

From where can I start? Also please don't recommend fad diets such as keto. Tried all of them and it made my mental health spiral.

And one last thing, are there foods that can be avoided for a smaller stomach? Thanks!!

Tightened my belt but haven’t lost weight

19f, 5’3, 155lbs

I went down a notch in my belt but my weight hasn’t gone down. I’m very confused, I’ve been trying to diet and I’ve been in a calorie deficit but my weight won’t go down. Most days I eat around 1000cal give or take, and my job is pretty physical. I eat a lot of eggs, oats, and yogurt. I’ve also replaced junk food with fruit, so I’m not sure where I’m going wrong.

The only change I’ve seen after making an effort to eat healthier is that I no longer have any chest pain. I used to live off of fast food which Im positive that’s what contributed to that pain.

Although I might buy a new scale because the one I’ve been using has negative reviews about it being unreliable. If after I get a new one and my weight is still not going down then I might go to the doctors.

I am a serious food addict, but resisting the urge is so much harder when I’m always busy

I am really out of control. I gained 50% of my body weight in only two years. I’ve always struggled with my weight, but always put it off because I was busy with school or work.

When I take a vacation, it is so much easier for me to resist the urge to binge eat. I can wait it out while I sit and watch a movie or something. I lost so much weight on summer and winter breaks during school. But when I’m working, and I get the urge to binge, I cannot go back to my work unless I do it. It is impossibly distracting to deprive myself of everything I’m craving. And I need to get my work done.

Does anyone else have this problem? Work is a priority but I can’t keep going on like this. Healthy food doesn’t satisfy the urge.

This has gotten me off my ass since every day since I heard it

I’ve been doing different random YouTube workouts and I came across one I really like mostly for the commentary from the guy leading the workout (plus it F*CKING BURNS).

Anyway during one of the workouts he said something along the lines of “thank you for working out with us and letting your body know it’s worth the workout” in between a bunch of other great motivational things about how amazing the human body is for being able to move and how lucky we are to be able to move it.

Your body is worth the workout. YOU ARE WORTH THE WORKOUT!!

Today I REALLY did not wanna work out and had to ask myself why I didn’t think I was worth the workout, got me up real quick.

I deserve to workout, I deserve to have a healthy body, I deserve to feed my body proper nutrients. I AM WORTHY OF HEALTH!

Started to see progress, now feel like I'm back to square one after trauma

First post to this community, and on mobile, no less. Be gentle, please.

I first started down the slippery slope of gaining weight after I lost my beloved grandpa on 2018. I had gained a little previously, but actually managed to lose 30 pounds to go from 210 to 180 in preparation for my wedding.

My depression had been waning until that point, but losing PawPaw kicked it into overdrive. I turned to weed to cope. Long story short, I very quickly went from 180 to 250 at my highest.

I was just so fucking sad, I wanted anything to make the hurt go away, even for a minute. Weed sort of helped, bit with the catch that I would become a snack dumpster, just eating trash until I was sick a few times.

I got into therapy, went back to school. Things started looking better. Weight loss was on the back burner for a while as I laser focused on school. I basically steadied for a while.

Recently, I started doing exercise in earnest, along with tracking my food and exercise with the Lose It app. Since I finished school, I've been able to put more focus onto trying to lose weight. And honestly, it wasn't really fast or a whole lot, but I managed to go from 231 in September to 218 as of last week. I was elated.

I thought I was doing alright. But then this past Tuesday, my dog suddenly got very ill and passed away in my arms. It was so fucking fast- she had been acting totally fine on Monday. She was acting a little off that night, but it escalated so goddamn fast. The situation went from "she probably has a stomach bug," to "her kidneys and liver are shutting down, and this blood test indicates she likely has cancer" within 10 hours.

I am broken. I have still been tracking my calories, but eating infrequently, but eating pizza or lazy food when I do. Honestly, it's been hard time get out of bed and shower, let alone exercise. I've skipped my regimen 3 times this week, and I'm so mad at myself. It's not even long, it's just a 12-17 minute workout routine from the Lose Weight 30 Days For Women app...not a whole Zumba video or some shit. But I just can't focus.

My heart is broken, and I worry that it's going to send me down the same path I went when I lost my grandpa and completely fuck over all the progress I made.

Not sure what I'm asking, if anything. I guess I'm just looking for support? Idk.

Weight stays the same but waist size decreased drastically

Hello all,

I'm M/29/180 cm/94 kg. I've been measuring my weight for a 2 years now and measuring my waist line since April and here's the funny thing that happened: my weight increased from 93 to 94 kg but my waist decreased from 105 cm to 95 cm. During that time I mostly did walking (lots of), didn't count calories but tried to eat rationally, included resistance training very late (one month ago or so for the most part there was no lifting during that period) and also included soccer (aka football) since May/June.

To me it seems illogical, the huge decrease in waist size should have been accompanied by loss in overall weight, given that there was very little resistance training. Any explanations?

My daughter changed my life.

I was always pretty heavy in my life and the most was about 300 pounds. After high school I lost some of the weight, but was still pretty heavy at 6'0 and 250 pounds. I always fluctuated weight, but never felt the need to lose it until I had my daughter. I was snacking on chips like I always did and looked over and saw my daughter staring at me. I lived in a big family and knew that my habits were most likely going to be passed down if I continued going on this way. I ended up going on a strict chicken and rice diet and have lost nearly 50 pounds! I have been out of the gym for 6 months because of Covid and am really eager to start up again. I have only gained eight pounds, but I can see some of my muscle vanishing. Here is to hoping I can set a fire under me once again. I was going to post a before and after, but can't figure out how.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Saturday, 31 October 2020? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

Counting calorie OUT - how accurate is Fitbit? I compared my CICO data over 11 weeks

First off, I am grateful to this sub for all the great resources and the inspirational posts. I have achieved something I didn’t think I’d be able to. Since July this year, I have lost 33 lbs. I am now in the normal BMI range, something I haven’t been in over 7 years. I’m going to include more details about my journey at the end, but now let’s get to the main part of this post.

After starting to track my calorie in/out, I always wondered about the actual amount of calories I’m burning every day and how accurate the calories shown in Fitbit was. Yes, I used the TDEE calculator but without knowing my BF%, I couldn’t be certain about the numbers. Yesterday, I compared my calorie in and out using the data from MFP and Fitbit over a period of 11 weeks. And, I was very surprised with the accuracy! The calculated and actual weight loss values were less than one lb apart (24.50 vs 23.56), which is impressive considering all the variables that go into the calculation. Here’s a chart showing the details of my calculation. Note that, the calculation was done starting about 3 weeks after I began my weight loss journey to negate the effects of water weight. Here’s my complete weight loss trend.

It would be interesting to see how accurate the fitness tracker is for people of different age, sex, etc. I found an older post describing similar experience, and I am interested to hear from you who have compared their results. I don’t own any other fitness trackers or smart watches so can’t compare the performances. But I expect other brands like Garmin and Apple to perform on a similar level. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have!

I'm now Adonis' second cousin twice removed

So I've been at it for the past 4 months, mostly CICO at 1200 - 1400cals a day, and so far I've lost 21kg (metric lyyyfeee!). Started at 120, and I'm still about 9kg from goal. 6'6, 24(M) btw.

Anyway, got back from working out and took off my shirt, then I saw myself in the mirror and was stunned that I'd become "normal".

Normal for me had always been the guy with the pretty okay life in movies who'd just be shirtless in a movie while he's brushing his teeth or whatever. He's not Adonis or anything, but could pass as maybe his second cousin twice removed. I always wished I could at least be that guy.

That's ME now! I'M Adonis' second cousin twice removed!

For someone who's been obese since high school, it's a huge deal for me. I've been so focused on getting abs (still am), I didn't properly catalogue the totally valid "oh snap I'm normal now" feeling, and I'm glad I caught it.

Losing it is a long ride, might as well enjoy the scenery while you're at it.

Weight loss slowing down

At the start of quarentine, I was around 180-185 pounds, not the best for someone my height (5'2''). Since then, I've brought myself down to the 155 pound area, but I can't seem to lose more. I've decided to take a short break from dieting, but I'm planning on going back to it after this week. Was this the right decision? Normally, aside from this little break, i eat a max of 800-1000 calories a day, my school's online zoom PE class is keeping me active. I'm not too sure what exactly I'm doing wrong. My goal is to get around 115-120 pounds, but I seem to be stuck. Any help at all is appreciated.

How Do I Get Over The Shame & Be Who I Want To Be?

One of my biggest issues is that I focus mostly on what others think and not myself, even though I am the one who is mostly unhappy.

I’m the one that’s unhappy with my weight. I’m the one that hates my body like this. I have to lose about 160lbs. I mostly can’t believe I let this happen to myself. That I let my worst fears come true: stretch marks, the likelihood of loose skin. My family has made me feel horrible about my body since I was young. The conditioning started way back, I can’t remember ever feeling comfortable in my skin or liking myself, even as a kid in elementary school.

I recently went through a bad time. Not only am I some big fat person, but I got sick and became heavier. I was at my lowest low (mentally and life wise) a year ago, but I’m trying to rebuild now and all I can do is be bitter. Over everything that was ever said to me, over the pressure to look good...for who?!? Not for me? To please everyone else?? My family treated me like shit instead of actually supporting me while I was sick. I’m a leper now. I’m a fat, jobless loser to them. Or lost. Maybe I’ve always been lost to them, because I don’t cater to their views of how I should look or act. I don’t know.

Sometimes when I start to lose weight and people notice, it instantly messes me up. I get both this feeling of being done and wanting to hide. I hate when people comment on my body, even when it’s nice. There’s nothing nice about my body, other than that it carries me and keeps me alive, but it will never be the way I want it to be now. I guess I just feel alone and like people don’t like me for some reason, and I always equate it with my weight and looks, and I just don’t understand. I’ve always done more than I needed to for people and I’m still not lovable or worthy of praise, because I’m not thin? That’s how I feel. I don’t think it’s insane or that I’m projecting. I feel like all they care about is when people look a certain way or act a certain way. At the same time, I’ve pretty much cut them out of my life for treating me so badly while I went through a horrible, traumatic time in my life. Am I ridiculous?

I want to do what I need to for myself, but then I question why I’m really doing it. I want to look good so people think I look good? It can’t be the truth. I want to look good or better, as good as I can, so I can be exactly who I want to be and wear what I want to wear.

I guess the realer question is: how do I get over the trauma that I’ve experienced and love myself enough to let myself be happy, even if there is so much that makes me unhappy? All I feel is that moving into the person I want to be will bring me the life I want, the confidence and happiness, and maybe the relationships.

I think I feel so, so low about myself. How do I love myself and help myself to be where I want to be when I am just riddled with the shame of where I am? I am so ashamed of myself and where I am.

I have lost nearly 10 pounds!!!

I’m 15yo fem 135 lb 5’5

I’m really proud of myself. When I first lose my first 5 pounds I thought it would be reaaally temporary and just lose weight by urinating a lot, but at the end I kept it and keep losing weight!!

Now my new concern is trying to keep under 135. Today I have already eaten and drank about 2 Lt of water and I’m weighing the same, so I’m pretty happy.

I have lost 10/30 pounds! 1/3 of the thing. (And i believe I don’t need to lose all those 30lb as a total because that would be really skinny, but I’ll see)

I’m feeling really fine and though I did lose these 10 pounds in about 2 months already I believe that feeling okay and keeping the weight in the future is far better than losing the entire thing in these 2 months.

What’s happening?

Hello, so I’ve been on a pretty strict diet with the bare minimum amount of calories along with some intermittent fasting. It’s been going really well and I haven’t been that hungry too often so I’m able to eat a lot less than I normally would. I’m also exercising on top of this. I eat mostly fruits and vegetables, but I do have chicken turkey and eggs. Sometimes I’ll slip up and have something unhealthy like French fries or pizza because my family wanted it or whatever, and I completely regret it right away. I have started to get sick eating food like this. It actually is making my belly turn even though of course I still enjoy eating these things (I’m just not so I can lose weight). It’s like 5 mins after I finish I’m sick to my stomach!! Never had this issue before. What is going on?

8 weeks apart: 1200 cal a day @ 5'4 (162 cm)

3 months of CICO @ 1200 cal a day has made a huge difference in my life. Pictured here is a few weeks after starting and today.

SW: 183, Pictured left: 175.4, CW: 156.2 (pictured right). I started August 10th @ 183lbs and have lost almost 30lbs to date. 25-30 to go!

I've been overweight most of my life. I have always struggled with exercising and basically accepted that being healthy was not in the cards for me... then I found calorie counting and LWEP! Losing weight has given me so much more energy and made me realize I actually enjoy moving my body and living in it.

I barely clear 3000-6000 steps a day, this has been strictly off of diet. Once I hit about 120/130, I aim to tone and gain a few lbs back.

Still Trucking After Setbacks

Hi! I’m new here, but wanted to share. I have struggled with weight since I was a little kid. I’ve always let things set back my progress and get me down; then I binge. Recently I joined Overeaters Anonymous and came to realize I’m an addict. I cut out sugar completely. I’m six weeks in and despite breaking my foot and not being able to walk (I was up to 2-3 miles a day), a vacation full of temptation, and struggling to accept the spiritual side of the program (I’m an atheist), I’m down 15 pounds and counting. I still have an overwhelming amount to go, but for the first time feel truly confident I can accomplish it as I’m beginning to loose the urge to binge eat everything in my house, or fearing I will stuff myself on my kids’ Halloween candy! Thanks for letting me brag a minute!

I think I'm plateauing because I don't want to lose any more weight.

F29 - 5'5" - SW 230lbs - CW 170lbs

I have run the gamut of weights. When I met my husband over 9 years ago, I weighed 120lbs. This was down from 220 four years earlier. I have been up and down more times than I can count on one hand.

This time around, I didn't diet. I made smarter food choices and made sure I was relatively active every day.

I subscribe to a lot of loss-related subreddits. I see progress pictures frequently. In the beginning, I used those as fuel. But lately I've hit a plateau. I've been stuck between 170 and 175 for the past two months.

I know I'm not yet at a 'healthy' weight. I could be way thinner. But here's the thing: I don't want to look the way people my build look when they weigh a 'healthy' weight. Right now, I'm curvy, I'm soft, but defined. I'm strong. I'm capable. When I weighed even 140, my bones were obvious and prominent. It required constant work and attention to maintain that. I don't want to do that anymore, especially raising a young daughter.

My question is: is it okay to stop here? Is there a bigger picture I'm missing here where I'm doing a disservice to myself and others by not prioritizing my weight? I've maintained a 55lb loss for 2 months, that must be progress, but I'm conflicted now. Any words of wisdom are welcome.

At home workouts to tone up and get a booty?

So I’ve only lost 10 lbs (still have 30 to go) and before I lost weight I had a decent curvy figure (hourglass if you will, but it was more fat than muscle ofc). I am 5’2 and kinda petite so losing this amount of weight is very visible and my body will change easily. Since I’ve lost a bit of weight I feel like I’m looking more rectangle? I’m also getting hip dips and my booty is going flat. Although I still wanna lose weight, I would like to have a nice figure, a decent sized butt, and overall toned body. So are there any workout routines on YouTube you guys recommend? Or have a personal routine you can share that can be done at home? I can’t currently go to the gym cause because of personal reasons and the pandemic. I also have resistance bands so workouts with those are also an option. I’m just not sure where to start or what to do and I need to go slowly build up since I haven’t worked out in a long time. Pls let me know if you have routines or recs, I’m sure it will be helpful:)

Losing weight while taking ADHD medications

I've struggle with weight for years. (Male, 40, 111kg, 184cm). I eat in a fog, not noticing I am doing it, and struggle to maintain routines.

A big part of this is, I have recently learnt, is because I had ADHD. The theory is that my brain has less dopamine transporters and so I struggle to focus and make clear decisions.

On 2 October I started taking dexamphetamine and it has changed my life. For the first time, I can make clear decisions about what I eat and how I exercise. I still make bad decisions sometimes (I'm only human) but the decisions are MINE.

This means that I have lost 4kg (8.8 pounds) since the start of the month!

HOWEVER, one of the side effects of dexamphetamine is weight loss because it acts as an appetite suppressant and makes the body burn calories faster than usual.

I need to lose weight but I want to do it in a healthy way.

I'm currently eating an average of 6000kj a day which I think might be too low.

What do you all think?

Lost 45 Pounds! (230 - > 184.6)

I’m a 19 y/o male and since starting in late July of this year, I’ve lost 45 pounds!

I contribute this a lot to calorie counting and exercise. Truly I am amazed by how right all these doctors were over the years.

Over the course of four years in high school and my first year of college, I tried dozens of different fad diets (including the snake diet....). Finally, in July I decided that I needed to finally lose this weight if I truly wanted to achieve my career gold and here I am now, preparing to take a physical fitness test (which I actually think I’ll pass!)

I wanted to make this brief post to thank all of you who post on this subreddit. Your stories, advice, and positive attitudes toward each other have made this process so much easier!

5 Small Tips & Tricks To Help You Stay On Track

I've tried losing weight for many years, and constantly failed sometime after starting. After many failed attempts, I've finally been able to past 3 months and I've lost 30 pounds and going. Here are some tips & tricks I wish I knew before:

  1. Protein is your best friend: When you're losing weight on a caloric deficit, you will lose a good amount of muscle along with fat. Losing muscle mass will cause you to have a higher body fat %, and you won't be pleased when your body looks different than someone else at the same weight. This is where protein will help you. Eating sufficient amount of protein (0.8g of protein for every 1lb of LEAN body weight is a good start) and doing weight training will help you preserve muscle as you lose weight. Anecdotally, I've found that on days where I ate >100g of protein, I felt much fuller and energized.

  2. Counting down days>Counting down weight: Completely anecdotally, but I have found that making my goal a date made it much easier to stay on track than when I set my end goal at a certain weight. When I started my diet, I decided that my goal was 190 days, I created a sheet with 190 box's and after each day I would fill in one of the squares. The reason why I think this works for me is because having my end goal be a certain weight, was difficult to visualize. Some weeks I'd lose lots of weight and it would look like I would reach my goal in a few weeks. while the next week I'd barely lose weight and the end seemed far out of reach, With counting down the days though, every night I know that would I get to fill in one square, which means I'm 1 days closer to reach my goal. It's small, but goes a long way in this battle.

  3. Food isn't going anywhere: One tip that has helped me stop urges in their tracks is writing down whatever food I'm craving and promising myself that I will get to enjoy it in X amount of days. I don't know why this works, but it always does and has been my go-to to fight urges. I have lots of food on my list, but hey one day of terrible eating after 190 days of discipline won't kill me.

  4. Keep yourself busy: Find stuff to do that will keep your mind occupied. Luckily (?) for me, school/work always keep me busy enough that I can ignore my cravings, but when I do have free time, I keep myself busy by working out or watching something that interests me. Do whatever works for you.

  5. Cook your own food: I really wish I started doing this early, because mann is it great. Not only is it fun to cook, but you begin to learn so much and you'll be amazed by how much you can while still staying under your daily need. Being able to truly customize your meals is such a awesome little perk to cooking your own food.

Hope these work for you as they have for me. Godspeed.

You don’t have to eat just because you can

I started calorie counting in May, and although I find it tedious and frustrating at times, it’s really helped me understand portion control, and I’ve lose 20 lbs since I started counting!

With that said, I personally don’t intend nor do I want to calorie count for the rest of my life; as someone who travels a lot and can’t control what goes into my meals 100% of the time (others cooking for me, eating out, eating at a college dining hall), I find it very stressful to have to play a guessing game all the time and having this internal dialogue, “does this fit into my calories?” playing every time I put something into my mouth.

So, I completely understand that while calorie tracking is helping me lose weight, I can’t rely on that number when I reach maintenance, and I need to actually develop eating habits that will help me maintain in the long run.

Recently I’ve been getting into the habit of eating something sweet late at night just because I can. “Oh I have 200 calories left over? Why not eat a scoop of ice cream?” I’d eat dessert even if I was stuffed and not particularly craving anything. This habit is okay, especially if you intend to track calories long term, but unless monitored, it could lead to some destructive eating habits that will ultimately pile the pounds right back on.

Right now I just finished a light dessert, and I still have 150 kcal left over—I’m sitting here going through all of the things I could eat to fill that deficit: granola or a few bites of cheesecake or ice cream or chocolate or hot cocoa, and so on.... But I realized, I just had dessert, I’m full and satisfied, so why am I spending my time poring through all of the 150 kcal desserts I can eat, just because I ~can~ eat them??

When you’re tracking calories, it really comes down to whether or not you meet your goal and stay in a deficit. It doesn’t matter when you eat, how much you eat in one sitting, how often you eat, whether you are hungry or not, if you already had dessert—your metabolism knows none of this. However, when that arbitrary number goes away, forming positive habits around these factors will be crucial to your success.

Weight keeps fluctuating

I've been losing weight on and off for 2 years. I started at over 300 lbs. I've lost 80 lbs since December 2018. Im 5'9. I do 5 to 7 hours a week of brisk walking with 3 hours of vigorous weight lifting/cardio with a trainer.. I've got down to 222 lbs. I usually only weigh myself once a week but I decided to do a midweek check. 3 days after weighing 222 I was 218. But then 3 days after, all under same conditions (i.e nude, morning, after pooping), I was back to 222. I've been either 222 or 218 for 3 weeks now. I dont understand. Is it a weird plateau or what? Nothing else has changed and this occurred suddenly.

In a caloric deficit but not losing weight

So little background on me I’m 23 now and weigh 180 pounds at 5”10. A couple years back at the age of 17 I was 228 and hated the way I looked. I decided to go on a weight loss journey and worked my butt off 2 times a day for 5 days a week and got my nutrition in order to cut down to 150 in about 8 months. So after that I have been maintaining my weight at around 165 but quarantine the last couple months made me gain 15 pounds that I’d like to shed off now. I started three weeks ago with a caloric deficit and 45 minutes of cardio 4 times a week as well as a weight lifting routine 5 times a week (Monday chest tris, tuesday shoulders, Thursday back and bis, Friday legs, Saturday bis tris and abs). I started at 180 and now three weeks later I am still at 180. I’ve been weighing myself every other day in the same conditions and the scale fluctuates from 179-182. I know I’m in a caloric deficit because I’ve accurately counting my calories at 1700 every single day and my tdee is 2793 cal a day. Sodium is at 600 mg a day and no more than that. It’s been extremely frustrating and I have no idea what’s going on. This is the first time in my life I feel helpless with all the work I’m putting in but seeing no progress. I want to put it down as water weight but I have no clue why after 3 weeks I would be holding this much water weight every single day.

Handling Halloween and this weird Scarcity Mentality that I get.

How do you all handle Halloween? Do you fully abstain from the junk? Do you fit it into CICO for the day? Take a full on cheat day? Cheat week? Find alternatives?

So, I waited until the final hour (figuratively speaking) to buy Halloween candy for handing out. This year I'm putting together treat baggies and leaving them in the porch with a scarecrow. Our own kids are young so we are mostly just dressing up and hiding candy around the house (covid times call for covid measures). So, it's inevitable...the junk has arrived and I'm certainly not going to deprive my husband and kids of it.

My husband is busy eating the leftover candy that hasn't been pre-packed for handing out. There's still plenty for our kids tomorrow too. And why shouldn't he, right? It's a Friday night right before Halloween and he has never struggled with his weight. Here's the weird part, while I'm busily trying not to eat any my mind is so preoccupied with the concept of how he is going to eat it all before I get the chance to have any.

I'm not an expert in the origins of a scarcity mindset, but I feel like it makes more sense for people who grew up in poverty or foster care, somewhere that you might need to fight for your food or eat quickly before it's gone. Well, that's just not me. I grew up upper middle class with tons of healthy and snacky food in the house. So, it definitely confuses me when I drill down into my emotions and realize I'm panicked that food will be gone if I don't eat it all now.

Does anyone know why this is? Do you ever experience this scarcity mindset despite the fact that you have always had the means and access to plenty of good food?

Dining out

Tonight my partner took me out to dinner. We haven't had many opportunities to go out, and tonight was my weak spot.... Italian food.

I got a pasta which was HUGE, and if I'd been inclined, I could have eaten all of it. But for the first time ever, I looked at the dish, and recognised that it was way too much. Normally, if I don't eat all the "good stuff" I can, I feel like I'm missing out on something, but tonight I ate in moderation, and got the rest to take home for lunch tomorrow.

Still not the healthiest meal ever, but this is a big step for me!! Portion control has always been a nightmare for me, and I'm really proud of myself for not gorging and making myself feel gross!!

Little, consistent changes make big differences.

Why am I losing weight when eating ice cream?

For the last 2 days, I lost 2,6kg or 5.75lbs.

I ate 2 whole cups of Ben & Jerry's and 2 cans of sardines to somewhat counter the cholesterol.

(200-220g, they were coated in sunflower oil).

That's at least 2600 calories every day for the last two days. My BMR is 1970. TDEE is 2300.

So, 4 cups of Ben & Jerry's (that's 2kg) and 4 cans of sardines (400-440g) in 2 days.

Could it be that I am lactose intolerant? Maybe the ice cream doesn't get digested because I get lots of flatulence after eating ice cream and I could bet it will come out as diarrhea eventually :)

I also haven't pooped in 36 hours.

It can't be exercise or anything like that because I didn't do any.

Edit: I drink around 3-4 liters of water per day.

Shouldn't the sugar in that ice cream bind to water (glycogen)?

This is another guy trying to lose weight. Hopefully it will stick this time around.

I feel as though I keep sabotaging for myself whenever I start losing weight and I hate myself for it.

So quick background, 28yr old and have an 8yr old son. Most of my days are spent sitting at a desk because I am studying to become a fullstack developer, so not a lot of movement going on there. I am 197cm tall ( 6′ 5.5591″, thanks google translate) and weigh 136.7kgs(301.4 lbs), so I need to lose 40kgs(88.1lbs) which is a lot.

I used to be as heavy as 160kgs a few years back, but I managed to lose some, but it's far too slow and I am afraid of dying because of my weight before my son becomes an adult. I need to change things.

My plan is to post here daily to keep myself honest, even if I had a bad day, and also post pictures monthly of any progress I might have made. And hopefully in a years time I can look back at this thread and be happy with myself.

Today I will mostly study and later tonight I will meet up with my family and celebrate my cousin who turned 18, so there will be some drinking going on. I haven't been drunk or anything in almost 10 years so def not a regular thing. But there will be chips and popcorn there as well, so I will really try and stay away from that.

I have some pictures I just took of myself that will mark the starting point of this journey, but I can't seem to upload them here, so I will post them later if it's possible.

I'll check in at night when I come home or tomorrow morning. (Hopefully it's okay to use this as a sort of diary btw)

A little tip for someone starting out?

Hey! So, I'm an anxious person, and have lost a lot of will to actually do stuff to lose weight, I'm between 190-200 pounds with no muscle on my body and have really been trying to get down to 130 pounds at the least to be more comfortable with myself. I wanted to know if there was anything that helped you guys keep to losing weight and working out even when it felt there was no use to trying? Having been in the 200 range for some time, I had never been bigger than 200lbs, but it's been years since I've been smaller than 150. I have done light exercising in the past to try and get myself going, but often find myself giving up due to the anxieties or being put down by others. Though I have done rather well on my eating habits.

Are there any tips you have that had helped you keep going with your dieting and exercising?

[18y, 5'5, m, if that helps with anything.]

After losing 46lbs in 4 months, I just lost 20lbs in 9 days to my goal weight. 255-189lbs

First of all, I really appreciate the support this community offered as I came down from 255. It was a daunting task. But I made it. The past 9 days I just really wanted to get to my goal. I ate pickles, kimchi and a few other very low calorie foods and lost a lot in 9 days with a massive refeed in the middle. Check out the video I made documenting the experience if you're interested. I realize this isn't a sustainable way of eating.... but sometimes you just want to hit goal. I'm back on OMAD keto as of yesterday and maintaining at goal weight.

Just had my first weight gain in 4 months

This morning is my weekly weigh in. I’ve been losing 2lb pretty steadily every week since July 1. Last week I weighed in at 220.6 so I expected 218 or 219 but I’m at 221. I know it’s a minuscule amount of weight to gain and probably sounds stupid to complain about but if I’m honest I feel really disappointed. I know all the advice is going to be to keep my chin up and continue, that this doesn’t mean anything. It could be water weight, muscle mass etc. but it still feels disappointing.

I didn’t go for any walks because of bad weather but I worked out 5x this week (30min intervals). I may have restricted too much. I ate 1200-1300kcal each day and 615kcal on Wednesday because I knew I wasn’t getting out and about as much. Next week I’m returning to my 1500kcal a day diet and hopefully I can get back on track. But for now, this sucks. I need to learn to deal with a little weight gain better. How did you feel/cope after your first week where you were up?

From 157 to 138, I made it past the halfway mark!

before and after

I don’t have the best before pic because i hated taking full body pictures. I found one from about 153-155, but I am now 138 from 157 back in june at my heaviest. I’ve been doing CICO and I cut out most sugar, and all fast food, and now have an occasional once a month restaurant date with the boyfriend. For reference I’m only 5’1 so my goal is 120. I’m over halfway there and SO HAPPY!!! My boss took this picture of me today at work and the first thing that came out of my mouth was, “holy shit i look skinny!” I’m so happy. I know my before isn’t the best shot but whatever, I can still see small differences that I feel proud of myself for.

NSV: I...can keep ice cream uneaten in the freezer??!?!!

I have had ice cream sitting in the freezer for the past couple of weeks without really thinking much about it or getting the urge to eat it. I didn't think that was even possible for me!

A couple of years ago I decided that my new ice cream rule was: I could only eat ice cream at an ice cream parlor - I couldn't buy it from the grocery store and keep it at home, because I just ended up eating it all in unhealthy quantities. The ice cream parlor might seem more expensive at first glance, but it didn't work that way for me, because with this rule, I ended up having much less ice cream (and appreciating it much more, since it was a fancy ice cream parlor treat!) So it was a win all round, for both my health and my budget.

Lately I've been wondering if I really still need to have that rule, so I bought a few little 100ml tubs of Haagen-Dazs like a month ago, and I've only eaten two in all that time. (!!!) There is still ice cream in my freezer. Uneaten. That is not emitting a siren call to me to eat it.

Now, I have not turned into a superhuman fiend who is somehow un-tempted by treats.

I think what's happened here is that my morning bowl of yogurt and granola has evolved to the point of being both delicious and somehow satisfying some of the same desire that ice cream satisfies. I never would have expected that, but here we are!

The yogurt isn't frozen, but it has some ice cream similarities: very dairy, smooth creamy texture, sweetness and crunch from the granola (my favourite types of ice cream have crunchy nuts in them), chocolateyness from the granola (I also love vanilla ice cream with chocolatey bits...Haagen-Dazs Swiss chocolate almond, mmmmmmm).

And my chocolate granola is homemade and has, over some months of tweaking, become the Best Granola Ever if I do say so myself. I'll add the recipe in the comments in case anyone is interested. :)

For anyone who might be thinking to themselves - "that's great and all, but *I* don't like yogurt that much, so that wouldn't work for me..." Once, I was even as you! lol. I was never a yogurt fan until last year when I started trying plain unsweetened yogurt with granola on top, and now I am a convert. I don't think I'll ever much like the fruity ones, but this is my new favourite breakfast and I look forward to it every morning.

Do mini work outs work?

So, I've been cutting back on eating out, cooking at home more ect, but I know my downfall is exercise. I really like walking, but if I don't go before work chances are I'm not going. ( It's dark by the time I get out, and my options are down a main roadway or the walking path near the canal and I don't want to run into gators)

I'm in front of a computer all day for work, so I know I need to move more.

If I do like ten minutes in the morning of like sit up and pushups, and another ten minutes in the evening do you think I would notice a difference? Currently 248, Ideal goal weight is 170, but I'd be happy to get under 200 again.

As of today I’ve lost 50 lbs

Hi there! I’m back! Just wanted to share how excited I am!!!

One of the main things I’ve been looking forward to as a reward of losing weight is feeling more confident in myself this Halloween, and I’m really pleased with the results!

Haven’t changed much from my last post, except I’ve added a whole feast week instead of a cheat day because I’ve been finding it hard to reach a healthy calorie intake daily (side effect of meds :/)

It seems to really be working for me but I mean like, don’t just trust me, talk to your doctor.

Anyway, happy spooktober y’all![before and after ](https://imgur.com/gallery/AuAILoZ)

30 Day Accountability Challenge - Day 29

Hello losers,

Thursday! Woot woot.

Weight by end of month (199 lbs, preferably trend weight): No weigh in this morning.

Stay within calorie range (maintain): Maintenance.

Exercise 5 days a week: 30 minute HIIT video & lower back stretches. Feeling limber. 22/29 days.

Self-care journaling (once a week, 60 minutes): There has been much journaling, I may finish this journal I just started this month. 4/4 weeks.

Self-care time (work on not using food as a reward): Went in for a check up to the doctor even though I did not want.

Try a new recipe once a week: Turkey tacos, roasted parsnips, roasted purple cauliflower, fajita marinade/fixings & a hamburger casserole thingy. 5/5 weeks.

Be more mindful, present in my body & express gratitude to avoid the hedonic treadmill: Grateful for fat berries, coffee & relative stability.

Your turn kids!

the misery of yo-yo dieting

hi all,

I'm new here and just wanted to hop on and say hello. i'm 28 years old and have struggled with yo-yo dieting and restrict-binge cycles most of my late teens and 20's. I've always been an overly drastic person and tend to fall victim to extremes. I've gone up and down 40lbs within just a few months.

I'm finally just so sick of it. The instant gratification of crash diets doesn't appeal to me anymore. I just want sustainable change and to love my body every step of the way.

Does anyone have any success stories of finding balance after aa history with yo-yoing like me? How did you do it and what finally caused you to look for a different solution? I could use some encouragement. Thank you!

I have gained so much weight since COVID started and it’s hard to get motivated to exercise.

Since all the gyms were locked down during the first few months of the lockdown I ended up running and doing very basic calisthenics to stay active. I thought that the gyms would only be closed for a month or so and the weather was getting warmer so I didn’t think much of it. Then I just started getting lazy. Now we are in month 8 or 7 (it’s all a blur to me) and the gyms in my area are back open but I don’t trust them to keep everything clean. I have gained probably 30 pounds since this whole thing started, I lost all my muscle that I worked so hard to gain and I feel like a slob. My diet is out the window and I just can’t motivate myself to workout at home. Sorry for the long pointless post. Just venting.
