So I don’t know about all of you, but when I first downloaded MFP, I was 100% about it, used it religiously, then... I kind of... lost motivation...
Now I had already lost about 20lbs, so it wasn’t disappointment, I knew I stopped losing because I wasn’t putting in the work, but, I couldn’t motivate myself to do it 100%. (250 to 230ish) (Jan 16-Mar 16)
Then a few weeks later I found keto, and it rekindled my love of MFP, and there went 50lbs. But again, slowly it faded away. (230is to 180ish) (May 16-Sep 16)
There was about a year (Sept 16-May 18) where I would be conscious about what I was doing but didn’t really try too hard because I couldn’t get motivated. I told myself it was my final year of college, I am the lightest I’ve been since middle school, I want to enjoy myself— and I did! In that year I gained from 180 to 185, which, tbh, I would call a success for maintaining. The extra 5lbs could have honestly just been the day I was weighing myself.
Well, I still wanted to hit 150lbs and hit my “100lbs lost” and I had just graduated college so I gritted through another 20lbs from 185 to 165. But all in all, COMPLETE MOTIVATION STRUGGLE.
Then, I did the math.
I had 15lbs left to lose. 15lbs @ 3500calories/lb is 52,500 calories.
I wish I still had the poster board, but I wrote “52,500” at the top of the poster board and every day I would subtract the ending deficit (from MFP) and it I would do percentages. Seriously. 525 calories is 1% of the way there.
I can do 100 days at a 525 calorie deficit. The motivation was completely reset.
Every week I would reweigh and reset my “total” number— like an accountant balancing their books— but the same idea would stand.
All in all, I hit 150lbs in October 2017 Swimsuit/Bra NSFW pics this is from an old post.
Anyway, as of yesterday I just finished another bulk/cut cycle and I’m about to start the bulk again... but I used this strategy to get me through my last few pounds and I figured it might help some people get through it! I have a swimsuit competition tomorrow, so by next week I should have a new picture to post (same blue swimsuit though!)
Also: just think, 100lbs is 350,000 calories of deficit! Unbelievable.
Edit: also, here is a NSFW (swimsuit) picture of me from March 2018, I don’t really like this picture because, you can tell, it’s a REALLY flattering mirror. (Look at the dimensions of the mirror and the dimensions of the things around it) but I was at 170lbs (peak bulk) for that picture.
Edit 2: also, 5’7 and a competitive weightlifter, so a lot of weights and muscle!
