Two months ago I decided to start losing weight, so I started logging what I was eating on MyPlate. A week in, I realized I still had some free energy (and time) in the evenings, so I started going for walks. The first night I picked a route at random and it turned out to be 5.8km long.
After two weeks of this, I realized that while losing the weight for me was primarily an aesthetic thing, it wasn't doing much for my fitness. Prompted by some posts on here, I decided running a 5K was a pretty good fitness goal, and I started up on C25K.
6 weeks in, the goal was to run for 22 minutes or 3.6km. When I got to the end of the run, though, I still had some left in the tank, and figured since I ran this far I might as well keep on going. So I did. Just kept putting one foot in front of the other. And I ran the entire damn loop that I could only walk 6 weeks prior.
For the record, I've also never been much of a distance runner. I remember in high school (when I was in significantly better shape) I ran a 2K fitness test for football and almost passed out.
The biggest thing for me was having a good running playlist, so that when I realized I was focusing on my legs and thinking about how tired I was, I instead tried to focus on the music and just run, one foot in front of the other.
Still 10 pounds to go to my first round goal weight, and another 50 to my long term, but in the meantime, I'm just gonna keep on running - I'm setting my sights on running 10K in a couple months :)
