I've struggled with weight ever since a young age, and tried a wide range of diets to try to lose weight. This has led to an extremely unhealthy relationship with food, especially regarding counting calories. I have a habit of restricting too much when I count calories, and it really messes with my mental health too.
I've recently started exercising - not regularly, but it's better than nothing - and this has caused me to want to try and focus on my health rather than my weight. That having been said, I still want to lose weight, because I know being heavily overweight is bad for my health. I also want to focus more on long-term, sustainable results rather than immediate ones. I know that counting calories will probably lead me to be focused on immediate results, and I'll just regain the weight I lose again.
So, here's what I'm wondering: Can I lose weight by beginning to exercise regularly (3-6 days a week, depending), and avoiding overeating instead of trying to restrict what I'm eating? My plan is to eat 3 good meals a day and drink 80 oz of water a day, and not eating outside of meal time unless I feel hungry. Also, what are some ways to avoid obsessing about results?
Thank you :)
