I don't mind that my fitness tracker overestimates my calories burned

This is a hot take, but I wanted to share my opinion.

I have my Fitbit linked with MyFitnessPal. Because I have my activity set as sedentary, it gives me a lot of extra calories whenever I get all of my steps in everyday. Like 1000 extra. I know this is too many. I do not eat these 1000 extra calories that I definitely did not burn. But what that number does do is give my brain a little extra flexibility in eating an extra 100-200 calories every once in a while.

I successfully lost weight my freshman year of college much in the same manner. I tracked everything I ate religiously on MyFitnessPal. The difference was that I didn't have a Fitbit at that time. If I even went over my calories the slightest bit I felt like a terrible person. I eventually quit once I hit my goal weight because I just could not handle feeling like I failed everytime I ate over my calories. Of course that didn't pan out for me and I gained back all of the weight (and way more, which finally prompted me to start again).

This time, I have the Fitbit, and it gives me the extra calories. But now, my silly little brain doesn't panic when I go over my calories by a little bit, because it still says I am successful. I know logically it shouldn't make a difference, but something about it makes my brain happy, and is helping me stick with it this time, with a much better mindset.
